Event: Cracking the Tech Career

  • Odecee Level 6, 15 William St Melbourne Australia (map)

Starting a new career is never easy!

Finding your perfect place in the tech industry can be a challenging and intimidating task for anyone; whether you’re a fresh grad, someone who’s looking for a career change, or perhaps wanting to go freelance.

By popular demand, we’re bringing back our sell-out ‘Cracking the Tech Career’ event.

You’ll hear from a diverse array of speakers and panelists who’ll share their tips on how to get your dream gig; from nailing the technical interview, to salary negotiation, and finding the right culture for you!

There’ll also be time on the night for you to receive portfolio/CV advice from our experts (so make sure you bring along a copy of your CV!), and to have a professional headshot taken to pimp your LinkedIn profile.

Introducing our incredible line up for the evening!

Speaker: Mandy Michael, Front End Developer Seven West Media

Mandy is the Lead Front End Developer at Seven West Media in Western Australia. Previously, she has worked as Head of Front End Development at The Brand Agency and also as a Digital Project Manager. She is a lover of CSS and Batman and blogs about her adventures in geek fashion.

Mandy is an avid supporter of the local community, running Fenders- a meetup group for front end developers - for nearly three years. In 2016, she joined Perth{Web}Girls as an organiser and mentor aiming to encourage women to code. Recently Mandy was part of team Mixin, a web conference aimed at encouraging a more creative and collaborative web for Perth and Australia.

Natasja Laurie, Talent Acquisition Consultant Odecee
Natasja has been working in recruitment within the software development space for the last 3 years. She’s worked with developers and programmers across various technologies, from .NET to DevOps, to help find their dream role. Having moved to Australia just over a year ago, Natasja now works within the internal Talent Acquisition Team at Odecee, helping to grow and hire passionate engineers into the company. Outside of recruitment, she has decided to take a step into the world of programming herself, spending the last few months learning to code (Front End tech).

Brooke Morrison, Talent Acquisition Consultant DiUS
After having a "tree change" on an equestrian property in the Yarra Valley, Brooke tumbled off a horse and into IT Recruitment about 11 years ago and has been doing it ever since! She's recruited across pretty much the whole technology spectrum, from ITIL helpdesk, Network Engineering and Cobol developers (really!) through to Data Centre, Security, Testing, UX, BA and PM roles as well as DevOps and of course Software Engineers with an industry specialisation in the Technology Consulting space. Her passion is the 'matchmaking' side of recruitment, candidate advocacy and the thrill of helping people to find their dream role as well as innovation and the technical evolution of the recruitment process.
