Girls to the Front: Code Like a Girl’s Sydney launch event brings female role models in tech to the forefront

Off the back of their success in Melbourne, the tech-savvy girl gang at Code Like a Girl are tackling gender diversity within tech one city at a time; with Sydney next on the hit-list. Backed by event partners Canon Australia, DiUS and Canva, the team have committed to delivering three major events over the first 12 months starting with their launch ‘Code Like a Boss’ an evening that will focus on female founders and leaders within the technology industry.

“Providing a space and platform for women to come together, have one-on-one contact, support each other and knowledge share goes along way to helping women thrive in tech eco-system. We’re seeing large percentages of women leaving the tech industry midway through their careers, Code Like a Girl wants to help address this by building a strong and supportive local network of coding sisters.”
Vanessa Doake, Co-Founder of Code Like a Girl

The launch event will begin with an address from founders Ally Watson and Vanessa Doake followed by an inspiring panel discussion moderated by Sally-Ann Williams, Engineering Community & Outreach Program Manager at Google. The discussion will centre around the experiences and insights from the panelists of female founders and leaders.

Panelists include:-

  • Holly Cardew, the 28 year old Founder of Pixc, an on-demand digital image optimisation service used in over 16 countries
  • Emma Poposka, the Co-Founder and CEO at Brontech a company that specializes in development of blockchain solutions for decentralized data management, digital identity and alternative currencies.

“We’ve been planning this for some time and with the generous support from our event partners we’re finally able to make it happen. Our events in Melbourne have been a huge success and it’s been nothing but a joy to watch the community grow and come together through our events. We’re so excited to see new faces and get involved with the Sydney community.”
